ManU Opens Phoenix Tournament with a Tie!

Posted by Phil Nielsen at Feb 19, 2011 4:55PM PST

Team Chicago Academy-ManU opened play at the prestigious SC Del Sol Presidents Day tournament in Phoenix, AZ with a 0-0 tie against the 3rd-Ranked team in Arizona – Alliance 96.

It was a fairly even game in terms of possession, but ManU dominated in terms of both quality chances and shots on goal. Gabby Diekhoff, Kaela Leskovar, and Sophie Pohl all came close with quality efforts from the distance, but a strong GK preserved the shutout for Alliance.

On the defensive side ManU was very impressive given the lack of match fitness and sharpness from the long layoff from 11v11 play. Madison Thielsen earned the shutout in goal.

Unfortunately, a heavy downpour set in after the game, so the afternoon games were canceled. Currently, it looks like ManU will play 2 games tomorrow to try to qualify for the semi-final.
