Internacional Wins the Germantown Showcase
Team Chicago Academy-Internacional captured its 2nd tournament in 2 weeks by winning the final of the Germantown Showcase in Memphis, TN this past weekend. Coming on the heels of the win at the SLSG tournament in St. Louis, Internacional has finished out its Fall season in style.
Going 3-0-1 on the weekend, Internacional got the tournament winning goal from Lauren Penkala off Kiley Czerwinski’s assist. Hannah Parrish recorded 3 shutouts in 4 games.
Team Chicago Academy-ManU made it to the Semi-final in Memphis after two 3-0 wins on Saturday. However, SWISA Crush proved too much for ManU, playing in its 3 game in 18 hours. The score was 2-0, but ManU had two extremely strong performances on Saturday.
Team Chicago Academy's Judo Program is off to a Great Start!
The joint Team Chicago Academy and Martial Arts Training Service (MATS) Judo program commenced on Monday, November 15th at the MATS Dojo on 550 Industrial Drive.
The initial session was a great success with representation from the following Team Chicago Academy teams: Palmeiras U16 Boys, Explosion U15 Boys, Flamengo U18 Girls, Botafogo U16 Girls, ManU U15 Girls, Internacional U14 Girls, and Cosmos U14 Girls. John Gussman and Maureen Browne from MATS ran the players through the paces, and while tentative at first the players did make great strides over the 75-minute session. And equally importantly – they had a great time and there was plenty of smiles and laughter to go around.
If anyone is interested in joining the group, the next session will be Monday 11/22 at 6:30pm. The cost for 4 sessions is $65.
Botafogo & Internacional win the SLSG Fall Classic Showcase!
Team Chicago Academy had a great showing at the St. Louis Scott Gallagher (SLSG) Fall Classic Showcase. The U12 Jaguars advanced to the semi-final after great performances in their round-robin games.
The U16 Botafogo went 4-0-0 and claimed the title with a 1-0 win over Chicago Fire Jrs in the final on a header by Jenna Romano from a Hope D’Addario corner kick. Kiley Dunning earned the shutout in goal. The win avenged the 2-1 loss in the 2010 State Cup final.
The U14 Internacional went 5-0-0 and claimed the title with a 2-0 win over Eclipse East in the final. Sam O’Brien and Abby Flynn got the goals while Hannah Parrish earned the shutout.
Botafogo Earns MRL Premier Division Berth!
Team Chicago Academy-Botafogo swept all 3 MRL First Division games this weekend in Grand Rapids, MI to claim the First Division title and a berth into the MRL Premier Division for 2011.
Finishing the season with a 7-0-1 record, Botafogo claimed the title 9 points ahead of the 2nd place team. Playing Waza FC in today’s final game, Botafogo secured a comfortable 3-0 win on goals by Rachele Armand, Dani Pitaro, and Jenna Romano, assisted by Hope D’Addario (3).
On Saturday Botafogo beat both Michigan Jaguars and Grand Rapids Crew by 2-0 on goals by Jenna Romano (2), Meegan Johnston, and Kelly Langlas assisted by Hope D’Addario (2), Zoey Goralski, Dani Pitaro, and Gianna Dal Pozzo.

Tigers Finished Runners-Up at SuperClubs!
Team Chicago Academy-Tigers had a great weekend at the SuperClubs tournament in Rockford. They got off to a great start Saturday with a 2-1 win over IFC Fusion with goals from Lauren Tarapchak and Shannon Molloy.
The second game was much harder fought but the defense stayed strong, and it was enough to hold a shutout with the winner scored by Emily Curtis.
On Sunday the last round-robin game was for a spot in the finals. The opponent was a familiar Fox Valley Strikers team, who beat the Tigers earlier in the season. However, this time the Tigers would not be denied, and Chauntelle Johnson’s kept another clean sheet in goal as Shannon Molloy got the game-winner with her second of the weekend, and Kristen Eichamer finished them off with a nice free kick to win 2-0.
The final was played against a fast and well-organized Cary Defenders team that proved to be too much to handle. As stubborn as the defense was, Cary was still able to score 4 times while allowing the Tigers only a few chances in each half and no goals.
Over the weekend, the Tigers showed off their impressive all-round ability with 7 different players playing defense, a plethora of midfield combinations, and goals coming from all three tiers of the field.
