Team Chicago Soccer Club will undergo a reorganization effective January 16, 2018. Current Technical Director, Phil Nielsen, will step down as he has accepted a position as the Girls Technical Director for Cincinnati United/CUP.

As part of Phil’s work he had devised a succession plan which WAA CEO, Lisa McClellan, and the WAA Board of Directors have agreed to implement. Effective January 15, 2018 Dave Lovercheck, the current Girls Director of Coaching, will be promoted to Technical Director overseeing Team Chicago and all WAA soccer programming and Chris “Brownie” Brown will be promoted to Girls Director of Coaching.

For the remainder of the 2017-18 soccer year Dave and Brownie will continue to coach all the teams they are currently assigned to. After January 15, 2018 Phil’s 2001 Elite and 2002 Elite teams will be covered by our directors and Dave Lovercheck will coach the 2002 Elite team at the PDT Showcase in Phoenix in February.
Phil’s last duties with Team Chicago will be the National League Showcase event at IMG in Bradenton, FL January 12-15, 2018. Dave and Brownie’s first official day in their new positions will be the annual MLK Day College Showcase here at WAA Sports Center on Monday, January 15, 2018.

“We are sad to see Phil go, but want to thank him for his tireless work on behalf of Team Chicago and WAA over the past 9 ½ years. We wish him all the best in his new endeavor. Although, this is a change we did not anticipate, all change brings opportunity. We feel confident that Team Chicago and WAA Soccer programming will continue to thrive under the new leadership” said WAA CEO Lisa McClellan.

Below is a statement from Phil Nielsen:

“It is with great sadness that I am writing you to announce my departure from Team Chicago Soccer Club. After 9 ½ amazing years with TC, I will be moving onto a new position as Technical Director for Cincinnati United/CUP.

Firstly, I want to thank all the wonderful players I have had the privilege of coaching here. And their parents and families who have been so incredibly supportive of both me personally and Team Chicago. I have built some amazing friendships as well as wonderful memories to last me a lifetime.

Secondly, I want to thank my staff of dedicated coaches who are not only fantastic coaches, but even better people. I know that with Dave Lovercheck stepping up to become the Technical Director, Kevin Gowrie as the Boys Director, Chris Brown stepping up to become the Girls Director, Brian Bierman as the 7U-9U Director, and Jamie Boe running the office, I am leaving Team Chicago in the greatest of hands. Five people whose dedication and commitment to TC is unquestionable.

Finally, I want to thank Hudson Fortune for believing in me and offering me the opportunity to help build Team Chicago, the WAA President Larry Gentile and the WAA Board for supporting me and entrusting me with increasingly more responsibility, as well as WAA CEO Lisa McClellan whose support and sparring has been invaluable in my personal and professional growth.

While I am sad to leave Team Chicago, I am also incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the past 9 ½ years. From winning a National Championship, being runners-up, and finishing 3rd twice, over Regional, MRL, and State Cup championships, to simultaneously significantly improving both our programming and our financials.

The state of Team Chicago is strong as is its future. And while I will no longer be providing the stewardship, I will be a cheerleader and the strongest ally and supporter from afar. I will look forward to watching TC teams in MRL, Regionals, and tournaments, and the club and my time here will always hold a very special place in my heart.

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank each and every one of you who have helped make my time at Team Chicago the best time of my life. I will be forever grateful for all you have done for me.

Humbly,

Phil H. Nielsen"
